For starters, a television set is a piece of electronic equipment used all over the world for millions of people as a medium for telecommunications. It receives broadcast signals which it translates into the moving images and sounds that you experience when you are watching a program. The images can be black and white or color (monochromatic). The word itself comes from the Greek "tele" (far) and the Latin "visio" (sight).
Technology Has Changed the TV Experience
The television, like most other technology has made remarkable advances since it first became available commercially in the 1930 's. A standard TV consists internally of electronic circuits used for tuning and decoding the broadcast signals. Televisions have also been engineered to handle other applications, including digital television (DTV) and closed-circuit television (CCTV). Another type of technology is used for high-definition television (hdtv) in conjunction with satellite TV service.
Before Directv, watchers had to rely on the limitations in quality of regular broadcast or cable TV. In the 70 's video cassettes help to correct erratic broadcast signal for watching movies and currently digital media (DVD 's) provide an upscale recorded product.
